Description
The kidney is the body’s primary filtration system, processing approximately 200 litres of blood per day and producing 2 litres of waste products and water, or urine. Blood cells and proteins are not usually filtered through the kidneys and remain in the circulatory system.
The tremendous blood flow and high concentration of metabolic toxins continuously circulating through the kidneys, create extraordinary oxidative stress, and can lead to progressive kidney damage. High blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels, NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs eg. ibuprofen), certain medications, antibiotics and high protein diets are all known to adversely affect kidney health and can ultimately lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD).
CKD is initially characterized by the persistent presence of protein in the urine but later progresses to end stage renal disease (ESRD) and kidney failure if not treated in time. ESRD is irreversible and results in death without dialysis or kidney transplant.
Treatment is aimed at strengthening the capillary walls of the filtration units (glomerulus) of the kidney, as well as reducing oxidative stress and inflammation
In the formula horsetail and resveratrol help to restore collagen integrity of capillary walls, while carnosine, coQ10, lipoic acid and milkthistle help to curb oxidative stress. Other ingredients have a supportive role.
