Description
SAMe (S-adenosyl-methionine) is the activated form of the amino acid, methionine, and is the major methyl donor in the body. Methyl donors carry and donate methyl molecules (a process called methylation) to important metabolic compounds in the body such as monoamines, neurotransmitters and phospholipids. Without the methyl group being donated, the latter compounds cannot perform their function in the body.
One of the key brain compounds that depends on methylation is tetrahydrobiopterin which is essential in the manufacture of certain neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, both of which may play a role in elevating mood and alleviating the signs of depression. Supplementation with this blend may therefore increase serotonin and dopamine levels in the blood, and improve binding of these neurotransmitters to cell receptor sites, resulting in significant clinical improvement of symptoms
