Description
Homocysteine is an intermediate compound in the conversion of methionine to cysteine, which has been implicated in a number of conditions, including atherosclerosis (hardening/blockage of the arteries) and osteoporosis. Elevated blood levels of homocysteine appear to interfere with collagen formation, a major component of arterial walls as well as bone, leading to loss of integrity and damage to these structures.
Treatment is aimed at reducing the levels of homocysteine in circulation
In the formula folic acid, vitamin B12 and betaine help to convert homocysteine to methionine, while vitamin B6 is required to form cysteine. Other ingredients play a synergistic role
