Description
The eye is a highly specialized organ that has a number of unique nutritional requirements. Lack of these nutrients are the cause of most eye problems, including cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma
Cataracts occur as a result of damage to the protein structure of the lens of the eye, usually due to free radical activity. Treatment involves an adequate supply of anti-oxidant nutrients and botanicals which can neutralise free radicals.
Macular degeneration refers to the process of deterioration of the macula of the eye, the area of the retina where the images are formed. The major risk factors for macular degeneration are smoking, aging, atherosclerosis (blocking of the arteries) and high blood pressure. Two types of macular degeneration occur, an atrophic or “dry” form in which cellular debris known as lipofuscin gradually accumulates in the retina, or a neovascular “wet” form which is characterized by abnormal growth of small blood vessels in the retina.
Treatment of the wet form of macular generation is relatively straight forward and entails laser therapy, while treatment of the dry form involves the use of anti-oxidants and nutrients that reduce the risk of atherosclerosis.
Glaucoma refers to an increased pressure within the eye (intraocular pressure) and seems to be related to structural changes in the collagen matrix which provides support and integrity to the eye. Such changes can lead to blockages of eye fluids and hence to elevated pressure. Treatment and prevention is related to the reduction of the inner eye pressure as well as enhancement of collagen metabolism within the eye.
Nutrients such as ascorbic acid, beta carotene, vitamin A, vitamin E, lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10 are powerful, general anti-oxidants that play a role in deactivating free radicals, preventing the formation of lipofuscin in the retina, as well as the formation of plaque in the blood vessels. Lutein, lycopene and zeaxanthin have a similar function but are particularly active in the eye.
Acetyl cysteine plays a more indirect role and is first converted to glutathione a powerful endogenous anti-oxidant. Carnosine also has anti-oxidant properties but may also play a role in reversing the cross linking of proteins that cloud the lens of the eye. DHA and phosphatidyl choline form part of the rods and cones that make up the retina.
Vitamin C, together with DHA and magnesium, plays a role in reducing intraocular pressure and, in combination with bilberry, centella, and the bioflavonoids (citrus bioflavonoids, hesperidin, rutin, quercetin) helps to strengthen and cross-link the collagen structure of the eye. Other nutrients act as cofactors and coenzymes in the different biochemical pathways involved

Francois –
From Bloodshot, Tired Eyes to Clear Eyes.
As a student, I attended a church camp. It was then that I first noticed that my eyes were bloodshot most of the time. Initially, I thought it was because of the chlorinated swimming pool.
Soon after that, I realized that it was a chronic problem for me. And it was worse when I spend a day behind the computer or in my woodworking workshop.
Now, I’m using Advanced Carnosine Complex for a very long time already. My eyes are clear most of the time, even when I spend an entire day in wood dust.
(Oh and by the way – my daughter’s eyesight improved. On the last annual eye checkup, the optometrist prescribed a lighter set of glasses than the previous year. She also uses Advanced Carnosine Complex. These days, she seldom uses her glasses to read.)

“I worked out with a decline in eyesight that I was going to be in for new glasses every 2 years, and that I would be dictated to another industry that was supposedly selling me a product to sort out my reduction in eye sight.
Phytogenics suggested Advanced Carnosine Complex. I am in week 6, and am amazed at the new clarity and reduction in blurred discrepancy between my two eyes.
I have decided not to renew glasses this year, and continue with Phytogenics and intermittent Fasting regimes, until I have eliminated use of my glasses. I am eternally Grateful.” Trevor C. Schultz

“Recently I have had a constant eye irritation causing blood shot eyes & constant watering with rather blurred vision after having cataracts removed from both of my eyes.
On taking the Advanced Carnosine Complex for three days, I am happy to report that the irritation has resolved, the watering has stopped & the vision has cleared” JE
