Description
Stress is a normal response to adverse stimuli from the environment. However, prolonged stress can place a tremendous load on many organ systems, especially the heart, blood vessels, adrenal gland and immune system.
The stress response can be divided into three phases:
1.The initial alarm phase, often called the flight-or-fight response, which is short lived and triggered by a reaction in the brain that stimulates adrenaline secretion by the adrenal glands;
2.The resistance phase which is controlled by a second hormone from the adrenals, cortisol, which allows the body to continue fighting after the initial alarm phase. Cortisol is involved in, amongst others, the conversion of protein into carbohydrates – which extends energy supply to the cells long after glucose reserves have been depleted – and in general causes the metabolic changes that are necessary for meeting emotional crisis, strenuous tasks and fighting infections.
3.The exhaustion phase resulting from continued stress and elevated levels of cortisol, which significantly increases the risk of disease symptoms such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer, and can result in total collapse of body function.
Treatment strategy is aimed at providing the necessary nutrients to support the adrenal gland and to relieve the symptoms.
The formula provides the key nutrients such as, tyrosine, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium and zinc for the adrenal gland to function optimally, as well as ginseng which has a calming effect on the body systems as a whole.
